Tarot Card Reading

Have you ever heard of Tarot card readings?

It’s a fascinating practice and a Divination tool that offers valuable awareness and understanding into your life. While some people think of Tarot as a quick fix method to predict the future, but really it’s much more than that.

Tarot is more than a tool for fortune-telling; it’s a powerful instrument for self-reflection, spiritual growth, and accessing divine guidance. In my years as a spiritual coach, I’ve seen Tarot illuminate the paths of countless individuals, helping them gain clarity in times of confusion, find answers to pressing questions, and tap into their inner wisdom.

But before I dive into how Tarot can help in your life, let me take you on a brief journey through its rich history and origins.

The Origins of Tarot

The origins of Tarot are often debated, but it is widely accepted that the Tarot as we know it today began in 14th-century Europe. Initially, Tarot cards were used as a simple card game, but over time, mystics and spiritual seekers began to recognize their deeper, symbolic meanings. These cards contain archetypes and symbols from ancient traditions that resonate with the human subconscious.

Some scholars trace Tarot’s roots even further back, connecting its imagery to ancient Egyptian, Kabbalistic, and Hindu philosophies. The 22 Major Arcana cards, for example, are believed to represent the journey of the soul from ignorance to enlightenment, similar to the spiritual path described in many world religions.

How Tarot Works: Accessing Universal Energy

Tarot works by tapping into the energy of the person seeking guidance. Each card is a mirror of the soul, revealing hidden insights and wisdom that can help you navigate life’s challenges. When you shuffle and draw the cards, you are essentially synchronizing with the universal energy, allowing the Tarot to reflect the most relevant messages for you at that moment.

In my practice, I guide clients to use Tarot as a tool for reflection rather than prediction. Instead of focusing solely on the future, I encourage them to see the cards as doorways to deeper understanding, empowering them to make decisions that align with their highest good.

The Benefits of Tarot Reading in Daily Life

Tarot is versatile and can be used in many areas of life. Here are some of the key benefits:

  1.  Tarot offers clarity when you’re feeling stuck or confused. For example, a client of mine was once overwhelmed with career choices. Through Tarot, we explored the different paths she could take, and the cards revealed hidden fears and passions. She ultimately made a decision that aligned with her soul’s purpose, and today, she is thriving in her chosen field.
  2. Tarot helps us confront our emotions and heal from past traumas. In one session, a woman struggling with heartbreak drew the Three of Swords, a card representing sorrow. But through the process, she was able to see the healing journey ahead, as the cards shifted to the Star—a symbol of hope and renewal. The reading helped her release old wounds and step into a new chapter of her life.
  3. The Tarot provides insight into our subconscious patterns, helping us grow spiritually and emotionally. The Hermit card, for instance, often appears when someone needs to take time for introspection and spiritual growth, reminding us that every challenge is an opportunity for deeper wisdom.
  4. Tarot can be used as a tool for manifestation. By focusing on specific cards that represent your desires, such as the Ace of Pentacles for financial abundance or the Lovers for harmonious relationships, you can channel your energy toward manifesting those outcomes. I often work with clients to set intentions and use the Tarot as a guidepost to keep them aligned with their goals.

A Glimpse into a Session: What to Expect

When you come to me for a Tarot reading, we’ll create a safe, sacred space where you can share your concerns and questions. Together, we’ll shuffle the cards and lay them out in a spread that aligns with your needs—whether it’s love, career, health, or spiritual growth or any aspect of life. The cards will guide our conversation, revealing the energies surrounding your situation and offering advice on how to move forward.

Many clients feel a sense of peace after a session, as the Tarot provides not just answers but a sense of alignment with the universe. One client, after a particularly profound reading, told me it felt as though the universe was speaking directly to her through the cards, reassuring her that she was on the right path.

Tarot in Different Cultures

While Tarot’s roots are often linked to European mysticism, its use transcends cultures and religions. Its images and archetypes tap into truths about the human experience, which is why so many people from different traditions find meaning in the Tarot. Let’s explore how Tarot connects with other spiritual systems, particularly in Hinduism and Kabbalistic traditions, and why it has become a cross-cultural tool for transformation.

In Hindu philosophy, the human body is seen as containing a system of chakras—energy centers that govern different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual being. The seven primary chakras, starting from the Muladhara (Root) chakra and ascending to the Sahasrara (Crown) chakra, represent an individual’s journey from basic survival instincts to spiritual enlightenment.

This progression mirrors the Major Arcana of the Tarot, a series of 22 cards that symbolize a journey from the material to the divine, often called “The Fool’s Journey.” The Fool represents the soul at the beginning of its journey, full of potential and ready to embark on the adventure of life. As the cards progress, we encounter archetypes such as the EmpressHermit, and Judgement, each representing a phase of personal and spiritual development, much like moving through the chakras.

For instance:

  • The Root chakra, which relates to grounding and survival, can be symbolized by the Fool and the Magician, both of whom deal with the beginning of life’s journey and mastering material aspects.
  • The Heart chakra, associated with love and compassion, aligns with the Lovers card, which signifies relationships and emotional bonds.
  • The Crown chakra, the seat of spiritual enlightenment, connects with the World card, symbolizing completion, unity, and cosmic awareness.

Similarly, the concept of Kundalini—a serpent-like energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine and rises up through the chakras, bringing spiritual awakening—is reflected in Tarot’s journey from the base, instinctual aspects of life toward higher consciousness. When the Kundalini rises and awakens each chakra, the individual experiences expanded awareness, mirroring the Tarot’s progression towards enlightenment through cards like TemperanceJudgement, and finally, The World.

In Kabbalah, an ancient Jewish mystical tradition, the Tree of Life is a symbol that represents the different aspects of God and the stages of the soul’s journey from earthly existence to divine union. The Tree of Life contains 10 spheres or Sefirot, each connected by paths representing the challenges and lessons one must learn to ascend spiritually.

The Tarot cards, particularly the Major Arcana, are often seen as reflections of this Kabbalistic structure. Many believe that the 22 Major Arcana cards correspond to the 22 paths on the Tree of Life, offering a map of the soul’s spiritual ascent. For example:

  • The Magician card, symbolizing willpower and manifestation, can be linked to the first steps on the Tree of Life, where one begins to use their divine connection to create and shape their life.
  • The Tower card, which represents sudden upheaval and destruction, reflects a challenging phase on the spiritual path—often seen as breaking down false beliefs or illusions to pave the way for true growth and awakening.
  • Finally, the World card, symbolizing completion and unity, corresponds to the highest point of the Tree, where the soul merges with divine consciousness.

By mapping the soul’s journey, Tarot and Kabbalah both guide individuals through life’s stages, helping them navigate personal challenges and spiritual growth.

The fact that Tarot aligns so naturally with these diverse spiritual systems—Hinduism’s chakras and Kundalini, Kabbalah’s Tree of Life—illustrates its universal nature. Tarot doesn’t belong to any one tradition; instead, it draws upon archetypal symbols and spiritual truths that resonate across cultures.

This is why Tarot has been embraced by seekers from various walks of life, regardless of their religious background or belief system. It speaks to something fundamental in the human experience: our desire for understanding, for spiritual growth, and for connection with the divine.

The Tarot’s symbols—like the High Priestess, who represents intuition and hidden wisdom, or the Death card, which signifies transformation and rebirth—carry meanings that resonate deeply with different spiritual systems. The imagery in the cards draws from universal archetypes that reflect the stages of life, the spiritual journey, and the path toward enlightenment. This is what makes Tarot such a powerful cross-cultural tool for transformation.

By accessing these universal truths through the Tarot, people from different cultures and spiritual backgrounds can find meaning, guidance, and healing. Whether you are drawn to Tarot from a spiritual, psychological, or even intuitive perspective, the cards have a way of reflecting your inner landscape and guiding you toward greater self-awareness and personal growth.

One of my clients, who had studied Hindu philosophy, found that a Tarot reading offered him a fresh perspective on his spiritual journey. He was grappling with blockages in his heart chakra, and during our reading, the Lovers and Judgement cards appeared, which mirrored the themes of emotional healing and self-acceptance that were tied to his chakra work. This reading helped him approach his meditation practice with renewed focus, ultimately leading to a breakthrough in his spiritual progress.
